The Chiba prefectural government promotes “the internationalization” in its policy and encourages the prefectural high school students to learn more about foreign countries. As prat of the policy the school asked AIRA for sending a lecturer to speak about foreign cultures for its first grade students who will go to Taiwan on a school trip.
Mr,Yasuhiko Hesaki who has resided in Germany and the US gave a lecture, titled “To know foreign cultures, based on my experiences living in Germany and the US” . In order the students to be interested in the overseas culture, a resume of the lecture in a quiz style was handed them beforehand.     pdf2017 resume of lecture in Abiko High School.pdf
The lecture was given by using a power point display for about 40 minutes. Since there were only a few students who ever traveled or lived in foreign countries, the lecture was started with a question to them showing some kind of episodes during the accident of Titanic, aiming to attract their attention. Then, the subjects such as “Differences in national character”, “Sports to watch and sports to play”, “Education system” , “Culture and nature” and “Languages” were talked about showing the cases of not only Germany and the US but also of France and the UK. After the lecture several questions about foods, a trip to Taiwan and others were raised by the students. Later the teachers said that for the most of the students it was the first time to hear about the foreign cultures and they were very much interested in the lecture.
