On the last day of the second term AIRA Saturday Class held a quiz party titled “Let’s Get Familiar with Japanese Geography”. 　　(No.17-22)

Date and Time : Saturday, December 16, 2017 10:30 a.m. ~11:30 a.m.
Venue : Room No2, Abista
Participants: 18 students and 15 teachers

The first question was to put large pieces of paper cut out in the forms of islands of Japanese Archipelago on the floor. Hokkaido and Honshu (the main island) were easy, but about Shikoku, the students were puzzled, “Which is the top?” It was also difficult to find where Kyushu and Honshu were connected. The students helped each other and finally completed the large Japanese map on the floor.

The next question was “Where is Abiko?” Of course they knew where it was! And questions about local specialties and tourist spots of various places were given, and each place was located on the map.
“Which prefecture is famous for cherries?” (The answer is Yamagata.)
“How about Shisa (lion statue)?” (Okinawa)
“Where is Peace Memorial Park?” (Hiroshima)
The students joyfully answered. Some shouted excitedly, “I’ve been there!”
Two sisters from the Philippines who go to an elementary school in Abiko answered a lot of questions. They seem to be studying Japanese geography very hard at school.

There were also questions like “What’s the highest mountain in Japan?” “The longest river?” “The largest lake?” A lot of students knew the answers and responded quickly.

Last of all each student was asked where they wanted to visit
“I want to climb Mr. Fuji.”
“I want to eat Takoyaki in Osaka.”
“I want to see Sleeping Cat in Nikko.”
“I want to see Great Statue of Buddha in Nara“.

The students and the teachers enjoyed the quiz party over drinks and snacks, and the happy time passed quickly. Finally they said “Happy New Year!” to each other and concluded the second term.
