It was the 3rd time to give a lecture on a theme of “Knowing different cultures” at the school. The contents of the lecture this time were as follows.
The 9th Rugby World Cup held in Japan this autumn was very exciting. In this world cup, 4 teams from UK, namely England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland joint team participated. In the lecture, the cultural differences in comparison with Japan were explained mainly by referring to UK from where 4 teams played in the match.
In Japan, UK is called “Eikoku” which is a translation of England. However official name of the country is The United Kingdom of Great Britain and North Ireland, that is a country to which the kingdoms have jointed. Differences in language, people, religion and food in each region of UK were explained according to the history.
In addition, as a topic in which high school students are interested, differences of education system between Japan and Europe were explained. Especially the lecture was focused on higher education system in Europe and USA such as the university entrance qualification national examination and possible admission to a university by sport recommendation.
201912042In order for the students to understand easily, an outline of the presentation was distributed to them prior to the lecture.
Recently young people in Japan are said to be reluctant to go to overseas. This lecture was given in a hope that it becomes a trigger for them to have an interest in foreign countries.
